Job description

This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoW and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoW.

Job Description:

Through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands‑on training and professional experience as a Windows Desktop Administrator – Senior System Administrator Fellow, supporting critical strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, and enterprise IT services essential to national security at Offutt AFB, NE.

In this Fellowship, the participant will gain exposure to Windows workstation administration, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), multi‑enclave enterprise networks, IT lifecycle management, and 24/7 operational support environments serving NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS, and SAP/SAR missions. The Fellow will train alongside experienced system administrators, engineers, and mission‑support personnel to develop foundational expertise in system configuration, VDI management, system performance validation, documentation development, issue‑escalation workflows, and assured connectivity across geographically dispersed environments.

The Windows Desktop Administrator – Senior System Administrator Fellow will learn how critical IT systems supporting national‑security missions are operated, maintained, and validated — while contributing to technical troubleshooting, configuration tasks, documentation updates, and structured testing activities essential to DoW operational readiness.

HOW A WINDOWS DESKTOP ADMINISTRATOR – SENIOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Participate in structured training focused on operating, configuring, and maintaining Windows workstations and virtual machines using Teradici, Wyse Management Suite, and 10Zig Management Console.

  • Support supervised IT lifecycle management activities, including engineering, integration, and sustainment of mission‑critical systems across multiple enclaves.

  • Gain hands‑on experience verifying system performance following hardware/software installations and observing upgrade and issue‑resolution processes.

  • Assist with product and service troubleshooting, issue escalation, and developing alternative solution paths under senior administrator guidance.

  • Learn to administer and support enterprise print services and observe how print infrastructures are maintained across secure environments.

  • Contribute to training, planning, and recovery documentation while participating in periodic continuity and recovery testing events.

  • Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including system specifications, installation records, calibration data, and compliance materials.

  • Train on professional customer‑service delivery in demanding environments, supporting DoW customers while collaborating effectively with IT and AV support teams.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education:

  • Technical training, certification(s), or BS/BA; OR an equivalent combination of military experience, technical training, and certifications.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Windows system administration, VDI management, or enterprise IT support.

  • Experience with troubleshooting, system configuration, or secure‑enclave operations is highly beneficial.

Technical & Professional Skills:

  • Understanding of Windows workstation environments and DISA STIG requirements.

  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure concepts, troubleshooting workflows, and system documentation practices.

  • Ability to learn new technical concepts.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to operate within collaborative team environments.

Role Requirements:

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • On‑site attendance at Offutt AFB, NE.

  • Fellowship duration aligned with DoW SkillBridge requirements.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

DoW SkillBridge Eligibility:

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty

  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement

  • Will receive an honorable discharge

  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS

  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months

Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
