The VP, Senior Actuary is responsible for assisting in the evaluation and pricing of reinsurance opportunities in Specialty and Casualty lines of business.
Principal Accountabilities:
Contribute to the development of the Casualty and Specialty portfolio
Develop and enhance approaches to analytical evaluation of a diverse set of exposures in the Casualty and Specialty spaces, with particular focus on Cyber, Excess Casualty, D&O, and Professional Liability
Responsible for managing a team of professionals, which may be in other RenaissanceRe offices
Coordinate with colleagues across the group regarding projects, strategy, and pricing consistency, which may require travel
Communicate with clients and brokers regarding information requirements for evaluation of opportunities
Contribute to the ongoing development of RenaissanceRe’s proprietary modelling capabilities by bringing specific skills and knowledge to the organization
Track industry trends, engage with data aggregators and generally enhance the group’s knowledge of market characteristics with utilization of relevant information, both proprietary and publicly available
Use of vendor models, including running models, interpreting their results, and recommending how they can be used to aid the underwriting process
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
A university degree with emphasis on mathematics, statistics, economics, finance or a similar scientific field
Actuarial designation required (e.g. ACAS, FCAS, FIA or similar)
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the insurance industry with experience in reinsurance
A minimum of three years’ experience analyzing cyber business and running cyber models
Prior experience with managing a team of professionals
Prior experience with pricing of reinsurance treaties in the following classes of business preferred:
Specialty classes, including cyber, marine, energy, terrorism and aviation
Casualty classes, including professional liability and general liability
Advanced knowledge of the common types of reinsurance and how they are relevant to each line of business
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including knowledge of concepts such as distribution extrapolation, curve fitting, portfolio optimization
Ability to effectively verbally communicate analytical findings to a broader audience
Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications
Programming knowledge preferred
