Job Description

Position Overview

As the Vice President of Thermal Development within Invenergy’s Thermal Group, you will be responsible for developing greenfield and brownfield standalone combustion turbine and combined cycle projects including carbon capture across RTO’s in the United States.

This role will be located in Invenergy's US-based headquarters offices in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop multiple projects that support Origination of PPA and Build Transfer opportunities.

  • Evaluate available thermal power generation technologies that may be deployed to meet market needs. Technologies will be dispatchable and utilize natural gas or fuel oil and may include carbon capture.

  • Support market entry analysis, site evaluation, permit ability and acquisition.

  • Perform and manage internal and external resource development activities, such as: site acquisition, real estate and title curative, interconnection, regulatory approvals, engineering, land use permitting and environmental permitting.

  • Manage and direct economic model development and financial evaluation.

  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering team to determine technology to be used its performance and capital costs.

  • Create and manage project development budget and project capital cost estimate.

  • Report and execute project management throughout the project development lifecycle.

  • Work collaboratively with the Regulatory team to understand key market drivers and target critical markets for project development.

  • Work collaboratively with the Commercial Analytics team to identify key requirements for system sizing and operational requirements.

  • Represent Invenergy LLC with customers, state and local officials, industry associations and other stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field of study.

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar role and industry.

  • Familiarity with utility-scale project development, as well as thermal energy production and development.

  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership, and time management skills.

  • Willingness to participate in development activities with local communities.

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 25% of the time to project sites

  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 12+ years of experience in project development, project management, and commercial negotiations, preferably within developing greenfield and brownfield standalone combustion turbine and combined cycle projects

  • Previous experience working with energy development and interconnection processes. 

  • Strong network within the data center industry, including relationships with hyper-scalers and property owners such as REITs. 

  • Ability to interpret regulatory frameworks and manage sleeved transactions. 

  • Proficiency in project management tools and familiarity with Oracle or other ERP systems. 

Base Pay

$230,000.00 - $280,000.00 USD Annual

30-40% Bonus

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
