Science and Mathemathics/INSTRUCTOR
BASIC FUNCTION:
Instructors for the Verizon Program have primary responsibility for implementing the curriculum.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Supervision of high school students
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Provides instruction in developing writing skills; critical thinking; coding and robotics; . Will include weekday and evening responsibilities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provides instruction to and supervision of high school students by:
- Tutoring/mentoring the student at evening study session
- Administering and scoring pre- and post-tests to assess student performance in relation to course objectives
- Introducing students to the level of writing expected of university students as outlined in a general course in freshman composition
- Increasing student proficiency in using technology/computer applications to produce essays, portfolios, and other college level writing products using features of Microsoft Word
- Increasing student proficiency in using the library and the Internet to research a topic, locate supporting documents for the development of essays, compositions, and reports
- Following the SOAR methodology and incorporating pre-college teaching strategies and cooperative learning techniques in module implementation
- Adhering to the discipline policies of the Verizon project
- Conducting oneself in a professional manner
Motivating students to pursue careers in math or science by:
- Being a good role model
- Infusing knowledge of African Americans contributions to society in the curriculum
Maintains and self and healthy classroom environment by:
- Adhering to Verizon policies regarding classroom safety
- Reporting student problems/discipline issues promptly to the coordinator
Maintains student records/confidentiality by:
- Recording all student scores in the Verizon database
- Keeping pre- and post-tests for filing
- Keeping student materials secured
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in English
