The Transportation Analyst is responsible for supporting freight payment operations through invoice auditing, payment processing, carrier communication, data analysis, and issue resolution. This position works closely with carriers, Finance, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate freight billing and payment activities while identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance overall transportation efficiency.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Manage the freight payment mailbox and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TM) and freight payment platforms to process, track, audit, and reconcile freight invoices.
  • Monitor payment exceptions and proactively follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure accurate and timely resolution.
  • Research, investigate, and resolve freight billing discrepancies by collaborating with carriers, Finance, and cross-functional teams to ensure payment accuracy and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong carrier relationships to support effective communication, issue resolution, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform detailed analysis of freight spend, invoice trends, payment activity, and transportation-related data to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing process enhancements that streamline freight payment operations and improve overall effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate freight payment records and ensure compliance with company policies, transportation procedures, and financial controls.
  • Perform other duties as needed

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience or equivalent education and/or experience

 

Competencies:

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of technical, process, and business principles as well as industry practices and standards.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential data.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products.
