The Position
Roche Digital Technology (RDT) for People & Culture (P&C) acts as the "Capability Factory" for Roche. The Opportunity
The Technical Systems Administrator for Payroll, Time, Benefits and other rewards systems, acts as a hands-on technical problem solver who takes ownership of ambiguous tasks, challenges the status quo, and acts as a technical mentor while fostering strong collaboration across teams. In this role, you will lead small to medium initiatives, prioritize effectively with stakeholders, and maintain a "bigger picture" view of how various components align with the overall strategy.
You will perform deep technical analysis of system and access issues across Roche’s complex network, design and implement technical solutions directly or guide third-party vendor partners and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to execute them. You will analyze complex business problems to recommend automated solutions, identify and implement process improvements, and optimize system configurations for peak efficiency.
Operating across Roche’s multi-payroll matrix—which spans multiple global solutions including Workday Payroll connections, Strada, CHRIS, Ramco, and Deloitte—you will combine technical troubleshooting with strong stakeholder management, stepping into business meetings to turn operational challenges into robust technical fixes. By developing comprehensive test strategies, leading cross-functional teams, and designing system integrations, you will leverage a deep understanding of the broader technical landscape to drive high-quality outcomes.
Scope & Problem Solving: Takes ownership of ambiguous, unowned tasks and drives small-to-medium initiatives at the project or squad level. Performs hands-on technical analysis on system access, interface failures, and workflow bugs to deliver immediate and long-term technical solutions.
Stakeholder Management: Prioritizes effectively and maintains a big-picture view to align technical components with broader product goals. Steps into business meetings actively to represent RDT, translate complex operational issues into clear technical choices, and provide actionable solutions.
Impact & Strategy: Mentors team members, aligns development with global strategy, and actively shares knowledge through talks, internal events, and cross-functional initiatives.
Complexity & Scale: Operates at the product or site level to shape technical decisions, improve ways of working, and lead cross-functional teams across a complex multi-vendor payroll environment (Workday Payroll connections, Strada, CHRIS, Ramco, Deloitte).
Business & Technical Expertise: Leverages broad technical knowledge to drive innovation while maintaining high engineering quality. Directly executes system configurations (as System Admin / Manager) for new functionalities like local payroll rules, tax updates, or rewards logic, or defines specs for vendor execution.
Daily Responsibilities: Supports and optimizes rewards systems through process analysis, interface implementation, testing/QA, incident management, configuration, and technical consulting.
Who You Are:
Initiative & Leadership: Proven track record of owning ambiguous tasks, driving small-to-medium projects, and leading cross-functional teams to solve complex issues. (Targeting Mid-Senior Engineering/Technical profiles).
Technical Strategy & Execution: Deep knowledge of the broader technical landscape, with expertise in designing automated solutions, system integrations, and optimized configurations. Ability to trace data flows across integrated systems and isolate failures (e.g., SSO, APIs, flat files).
Problem Solving & QA: Strong analytical skills to streamline business processes, challenge the status quo, and develop comprehensive test strategies and plans. Demonstrated ability to perform technical root-cause analysis on complex application or access errors.
Ecosystem Experience: Prior experience with global payroll platforms and connectors highly preferred.
Mentorship & Collaboration: Experience acting as a technical mentor, driving internal knowledge-sharing events, and navigating diverse group dynamics.
Stakeholder & Strategic Alignment: Excellent communication skills to manage stakeholder priorities, step up to present solutions, and align technical decisions with overarching business goals.
