Job description

As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Technical Artist to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect. 

The Technical Artist acts as a bridge between the artists and programmers, ensuring the art content and features are easily integrated into the game, while respecting the artistic vision and technical constraints of the project.

As a technical artist, you will take on advanced responsibilities, including designing and developing shaders, scripting, and creating advanced pipelines. You will write and maintain technical documentation, collaborate with artists and programmers, and prioritize performance optimization and asset validation. Additionally, you will mentor junior team members, guiding their growth and development.

Responsibilities

    • Provide technical follow-up to the art team in regards to performance and guidelines.

    • Design and develop new art pipeline tools with a strong focus on usability and efficiency, enforcing established code standards and fostering a culture of best practices within the team.

    • Design, implement and optimize shaders while meeting artistic and technical requirements.

    • Analyze the creative process to identify and implement opportunities for tool enhancements and workflow optimization.

    • Initiate and follow up on research and development as well as the technical pipeline development

    • Create and maintain technical art documentation to support tools, workflows, and processes.

    • Act as interlocutor between the art and the programming team.

    • Provide mentorship to junior team members, fostering their growth and professional development.

Requirements

    • Experience in high-level coding languages (Python, C#, etc.) with an understanding of code architecture to develop maintainable tools, streamline workflows, and enhance pipeline efficiency.

    • An understanding of mathematics, including trigonometry and linear algebra, with the ability to apply them effectively.

    • Experienced in shader development with a strong understanding of the Physically Based Rendering (PBR) pipeline.

    • A solid understanding of a digital art content creation pipeline (high and low-poly modelling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level building).

    • Team oriented and a strong desire for collaborative participation in a team-based pipeline across different geographic locations.

NIce to have

    • A good understanding of HLSL.

    • Experience with Maya, Houdini, Substance Designer and Painter.

    • Knowledgeable on the latest advances in (procedural) content creation.
