Position Purpose

The Nursing Support (NS) colleague (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures. What you will do

  • Prepares and sets up the operating room, including equipment, instruments, sterile table, and required supplies for surgical procedures.

  • Ensures sterility and aseptic technique throughout the case, including checking equipment and packages, maintaining sterile fields, and addressing any breaks in technique.

  • Assists with patient preparation, including positioning, bed/fracture table setup, and draping.

  • Manages intraoperative responsibilities, including maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles, and properly handling specimens.

  • Provides procedural support and communication, including responding to emergencies (e.g., C-sections), operating specialty equipment, and giving report to relief staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Operating Room Technology

  • Licensure: Successful completion of national exam for certification by NBSTSA.  Registry Eligible must pass the certification exam within 18 months from date of hire.

  • Certification: BLS required.
