Louisiana Tech University is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Student Retention Specialist. The Specialist will work within one of the five academic colleges: College of Applied and Natural Sciences, College of Business, College of Education and Human Sciences, College of Engineering and Science, College of Liberal Arts.



Student Retention Specialists will assist the colleges to support the University’s goals to retain students; connect at-risk students to campus resources; and facilitate student success and persistence through advisement.


Louisiana Tech University is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Student Retention Specialist. Student Retention Specialists will assist the colleges to support the University’s goals to retain students; connect at-risk students to campus resources; and facilitate student success and persistence through advisement.

Qualifications and Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required. Successful candidates will possess excellent oral and written communication skills; creative problem-solving skills; the ability to create, maintain, and interpret digital records; fluency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Student Retention Specialists must demonstrate the ability to professionally engage with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds; commitment to equity and inclusion; and an attitude that is responsive, positive, and flexible.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Plan and execute effective strategies and programs, including early intervention strategies, to enhance retention and student success
  • Assist students with social and academic transitions
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of on- and off-campus referral sources that are available to support students’ needs
  • Provide advising support for students and collaborate with on-campus stakeholders to improve advising processes and procedures
  • Collect, interpret, and maintain college-specific data related to student retention and graduation rates
  • Ongoing collaboration and coordination with other Student Retention Specialists
  • Maintain familiarity with the University’s policies and procedures related to academic standards and expectations and student advancement.
  • Develop effective programming and coordinate events and services to support student development, out-of-classroom learning, and academic progress.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with University policies and state and federal laws.
