We seek a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer - Stamping Specialist for a position in our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering group.

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering group is responsible for developing and implementing the processes, equipment and tooling used to turn our Engineers' ideas into reality. For our Stamping team, we are not looking to revolutionize the stamping process. Instead we seek to rapidly develop and implement a stamping team and process that is capable of delivering first in class part quality, system reliability and cost efficiency.

Our Stampings Team will be core to the success of our mission; providing the bedrocks of our vehicles and our customer experience. They will provide direct feedback to the vehicle engineering team, as well as develop the plant tooling and equipment strategy. As a result they will have direct responsibility for the quality level of the vehicle.

Role Responsibilities

· Deliver high quality stamping dies and processes that meet the production, part quality and cost goals of the program.

· Support Vehicle Engineers through part and assembly DFM studies

· Provide technical direction on tool & equipment design & build

· Manages all aspects of tool development for in-house stamping operations, including

o Project planning

o Technical specifications for RFQ generation

o Supplied Services performance

o Tool design analysis and approval/buy-off

o Trials and tuning at the tool shop and on the homeline

o Reporting to company stakeholders on progress and issues

o Issue resolution

· Resolve complex part formability issues using die compensation strategies in order to achieve Styling, quality and production goals.

· Data-focused troubleshooting of quality issue.

· Lead Tooling design and quality standards creation

· Provide project related direction to technicians and stamping plant personnel


Requirements

·  B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience 

·  10+ years of experience in Die design, manufacturing and tuning.

·  Demonstrated, hands-on experience buying-off dies for construction quality and part accuracy.

·  Demonstrated experience managing international tool and die suppliers to meet project goals.

·  Experience creating Die operation layouts.

·  Strong, demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with diverse teams of engineers and management 

·  Hands-on experience with dimensional verification processes for body in white components.

·  Willingness to expand your understanding of the stamping process and creatively resolve project issues in an aggressive, cost sensitive and time sensitive manner

·  Completion of GD&T training course by certified instructor within the last 8 years

·  Fluent in Microsoft Office software

·  Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical control systems 

·  Travel up to 50% during build and buy-off events.

Preferred Qualifications:

·  Experience working with die suppliers in China/Asia

·  Experienced user of sheetmetal formability simulation software

·  Experience applying statistical analysis to improve product quality and/or production results

·  Bilingual: English / Mandarin
