As a Staff User Experience (UX) Researcher, you will act as a player-coach in a highly ambiguous, fast-moving environment. You will be a core member of the team working alongside Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to drive the product roadmap. You will have the opportunity to impact all stages of product development by conducting foundational research to define long-term goals, executing evaluative research plans, and overseeing feature rollouts.Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Gemini Notebook leads, Product Management, UX Design, and Engineering across the product lifecycle.
  • Own and drive research roadmaps with multi-phase projects across tactical efforts.
  • Design, plan, and execute mixed-methods research, including surveys, concept testing, and experimental statistics.
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to answer product questions and shape the direction of new user experiences.
  • Advocate for research findings to audiences and cross-functional stakeholders, including executives.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in an applied research setting, or similar.
  • Experience with mixed-methods research, including surveys, interviewing, and data analysis.
  • Experience with experimental statistics and quantitative data analysis.
  • Experience conducting research across all stages of the product development lifecycle.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience working with executive leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • 5 years of experience managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies.
  • Experience working in startup environments or scaling nascent products.
