Job description
As a Staff/Senior Staff Commodity Manager
- Must have proven L6 systems and suppliers management experience.
- Provide subject matter expertise to cross functional team in initiatives to improve cost / volume / quality / lead-time post-First Customer Ship.
- Provide leadership for all internal supplier activities and interfaces. Must be highly collaborative in managing key stakeholders and peer organizations
- Independently initiate and drive commodity strategies in close collaboration with product management, Engineering and Operations.
- Manage execution / scoring / recommendations on RFIs and RFQs to select the appropriate supplier that best meets the technology requirements / cost / volume / quality / lead-time / supply chain flexibility and robustness targets defined by cross functional team to ensure alignment of strategic priorities. Ensure RFQ awards are consistent with overall group strategy
- Collaborate with cross functional team in early development phases to anticipate business requirement needs and communicate supply base long term roadmaps and gap against Acme roadmaps.
- Manage overall process to maintain technology roadmap alignment with the supply base. Drive risk mitigation to completion
- Foresee and develop long-range mitigation strategies for the commodity space
- Drive commodity space suppliers for Value Engineering proposals. Provide subject matter expertise on Value Engineering solutions to product changes during product development execution
- Define and negotiate forward-looking cost strategies with selected suppliers.
- Foresee and mitigate supply chain capacity and/or sub-component risk points
- Provide ownership and accountability for a commodity technology strategy in a particular area based on a detailed understanding of the market / industry and areas such as types of suppliers, technologies, capacities, cost sensitivities and component requirements
- Manage overall relationship with supplier and monitor supplier performance with scorecards, continuous improvement initiatives (Business Code, Quality, Environmental, G. Hub, Lean, etc)
- Suppliers usually associated with high risk or high impact
- Manage component and Supply Chain risks through supplier negotiations, financial ratings, continuity strategies (e.g., multi-sourcing, buffers, geography, EOL, mature product supply base), risk rating updates and mitigation plans. Suppliers usually associated with high risk or high impact. Negotiations should be supported with industry benchmarks, trends, and internal cost models
- Manage cost recovery negotiations due to recalls, umpires
- Establish relationships with senior executives and key decision-makers in the supplier organizations. Can independently represent Acme and senior-level meetings
- Drives solutions for process improvements or efficiencies
- BSEE preferred
