The Staff Accountant at Open Door Community Health Centers (ODCHC) develops, interprets, and implements complex financial and accounting concepts and methods for financial accounting and control in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Staff Account is responsible for journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, and must be able to work with all levels of management. This position also provides support services for the Senior Vice President of Finance and Senior Financial Analyst with the daily processing of all aspects of general ledger data and other accounting functions within internal control guidelines.

Compensation Range:

$29.86-$35.81

Hmong and Spanish speakers who successfully pass a language exam will receive an additional .75 hourly differential to their wage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and entry of monthly journal entries.
  • Responsible for posting Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments as manual checks in accounting systems.
  • Reviews with Senior Vice President of Finance and Senior Financial Analyst for proper account coding and other guidance as needed.
  • Reconciles various general ledger account balances to ensure accuracy including bank reconciliations. Analyze account activity and makes necessary monthly adjustments for prepaid accounts, deposit, and accrual accounts and inter-company transactions.
  • Performs monthly analysis of balance sheet accounts under direction of Controller.
  • Assists in compiling monthly finance statements from general and subsidiary accounting records.
  • Assists the Senior Financial Analyst in maintaining Fixed Asset Records and prepares the monthly depreciation journal entry.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates physical and computer grant files for assigned grants.
  • Prepares and posts approved monthly gran journal entries for month-end including payroll allocations.
  • Prepares individual grant worksheets and monthly grant financial reports on actual vs. budget expenses for assigned grants.
  • Provides backup support for the Senior Financial Analyst on daily tasks when they are out of the office.
  • Assists the Senior Vice President of Finance and Senior Financial Analyst in the development of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Assists with annual audit preparation and works with the auditors while on site.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.
     

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish constructive professional working relationships among a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently as needed.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP as applied in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong computer skills with specific aptitude in Microsoft Office Suite and PC-Based Accounting Software.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex financial documents, reports, and manuals and disseminate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of cash management, expenditure, and disbursement processes.
  • Ability to effectively represent ODCHC’s interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among co-workers, public, private, and professional groups.
  • Adheres to ODCHC’s policies and procedures.
     

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from and accredited college or university; or
  • Five years of experience in a similar role in lieu of a degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
 

SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT: The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is an integral member of the Finance team.
