General Purpose

To ensure that the Currant Creek Combined Cycle Power Plant is operated and maintained in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that all necessary routine statutory and non-statutory inspections and operational and maintenance activities are carried out and appropriate records maintained. Senior Plant Technicians will perform project leader and planning functions as part of their regular duties. Employees may be assigned to direct the work for outside vendors or assume a leadership role during a planned outage or other needs of service. Secondary duties may include maintenance activities that the employee is qualified to perform. The Currant Creek facility will operate 24hrs per day 7 days per week and this position will be required to work a rotating shift pattern including weekends and holidays and will need to provide cover as and when required to maintain minimum staffing

Responsibilities

•    Operation of the Power Plant in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
•    Develop & Implement plant operating and safety procedures
•    Control Room operations of all areas of plant within guidance laid down in station procedures or manufacturers recommendations.
•    Start up and shut down activities of the units
•    Actions required upon the receipt of plant alarms
•    Use of control and information systems provided to optimize performance and minimize plant damage
•    Release of plant & making safe for work
•    Routine inspection and operation of outside plant
•    Routine testing of plant and equipment & the upkeep of testing records
•    Monitoring & adjustment of plant water chemistry
•    Actions required under Fire and Emergency conditions as laid down in plant procedures
•    Interface with commercial and trading on the commercial dispatch of the plant.
•    Local and remote switching operations within the 345kv substation
•    Use of SAP maintenance management system to raise defects
•    Ensure budgets under their control are managed within company and site policies and are maintained within budget.
•    When appropriate manage contractors carrying out specific contract work, and ensure compliance with site instructions.
•    Undertake minor maintenance activities within the capability and skills of the individual & be willing to learn appropriate new skills.
Additional Duties:
•    Where appropriate assist other staff within the plant to carry out their duties to ensure the plant can meet its obligations to the company.
•    Be prepared to support plant activities in the interests of promoting the station and the company in the community.

Requirements

•High School Diploma or GED
•At Least 3 years experience in the operation of large generating plant or similar industrial facility or process.
•Successfully pass a pre-employment exam which will determine applicant's knowledge and skill level of operating plant processes, electrical distribution, generation, water/steam cycles and turbine operation as one factor in the selection process.
•Effective communication skills
•Basic proficiency with computers and related software
•Demonstrated team working skills
•Must be able to work a rotating shift including weekends and holidays
•Must be available as necessary to cover for overtime, including weekends and holidays.
•Must complete a respiratory evaluation and fit test
•Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the job

• Combined Cycle Experience
• GE and Toshiba Technology operational experience

b. Toshiba Steam Turbine
c. Mark 6 Controls
d. Ovation Controls

e. Toshiba Controls
