Senior Housekeeper

Location: AdventHealth Ottawa

Schedule: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM | Every Other Weekend
Days off during the week when scheduled to work the weekend

The Senior Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the hospital while supporting daily Environmental Services operations. In addition to performing housekeeping duties, this role provides leadership and guidance to Environmental Services team members, promotes compliance with infection prevention standards, and helps ensure quality, efficiency, and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned patient rooms, public areas, restrooms, offices, and ancillary spaces according to established department standards.

  • Collect and dispose of regular and biohazardous waste safely and in accordance with infection prevention policies.

  • Collect, stage, and prepare soiled linen for pickup.

  • Perform environmental cleaning tasks including sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping, vacuuming, wall washing, high dusting, bed making, scrubbing, and surface disinfection.

  • Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces using approved cleaning products and disinfectants.

  • Stock housekeeping carts daily with cleaning supplies, paper products, and equipment necessary to complete assigned duties.

  • Replenish supplies throughout assigned areas to ensure patient care units remain fully stocked.

  • Document completed work and maintain required department records accurately.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection prevention, isolation precautions, and the safe operation of housekeeping equipment.

  • Train and support Environmental Services team members while reinforcing department expectations and quality standards.

  • Address routine operational concerns and assist in resolving day-to-day workflow issues.

  • Promote exceptional customer service by interacting professionally and courteously with patients, visitors, physicians, and fellow team members.

  • Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Knowledge of environmental services, housekeeping procedures, and cleaning practices

    • Knowledge of infection prevention, isolation precautions, and environmental sanitation

    • Ability to maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition

    • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to communicate effectively in conversational English

    • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel

    • Strong organizational and time management skills

    • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced healthcare environment

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

    • Ability to train, mentor, and support team members

    • Commitment to quality, safety, and patient satisfaction

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED — Preferred

    Experience

    • One year of housekeeping, environmental services, custodial, or related technical experience — Required

    • Two or more years of housekeeping or environmental services experience — Preferred
