Job description

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Athletics is searching for an (Senior) Associate Head Coach in its NCAA Division III program. The direct position group in which this position will be responsible will be determined by the Head Football Coach based on the current Coaching Roster and Applicant Pool. This position is primarily an (Senior) Associate Head Coaching position will serve as the Head Coach’s senior position, with accountability coaching and administrative tasks serving as the Head Coach designee when requested.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The ideal candidate will coach on the Offensive side of the ball, with preference given to those with multiple years’ experience working with the Offensive Line.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coaching your individual position group as assigned by the Head Football Coach

  • Supervision of full-time and part-time assistant coaches in conjunction with the Head Football Coach in multiple facets will be required.

  • Assist Head Coach with responsibilities such as: Alumni Engagement, Recruiting Organization, Roster Management, Travel planning, and Special Event Planning

  • Assist head coach with planning, implementation and supervision of practice sessions.

  • Playbook creation, game planning, and organizing daily practice schedule & oversight of the Offensive or Defensive assistant coaching staff, as directed by the Head Football Coach.

  • Coordinating or Assisting with Special Teams Scheme and Implementation

  • Demonstrate proficiency in sport skill instruction, motivation and ability to conduct practice sessions under the direction of the head coach

  • Recruit diverse and talented student athletes via phone, email or personal contact to a nationally competitive program

  • Administrative duties include, but are not limited to: Film Analysis and Breakdown, Travel Arrangements, involvement with Alumni and recruiting events, Recruiting communications and material compilation, leadership development, etc.

  • Leadership and professional behavior when dealing with student athletes

  • Demonstrate sincere interest in personal, academic and athletic progress of student-athletes

  • Teaching the physical education program, or assisting in event management as necessary

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach and Director of Athletics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years athletic coaching experience, preferably at the Collegiate or Professional level

  • Serious consideration will be given to candidates who have a background in Offensive Line Coaching

  • Preferred candidates will have experience with Playcalling / Coordinating, Recruiting experience with high academic institutions.

  • Knowledge of computer software for film breakdown and recruiting is highly desired

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
