Job description

The Role

At SMCo, we believe the quality of our work begins with the people who build it.

The Solar Installer is a skilled craftsperson who helps deliver high-quality solar energy systems for homeowners, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations across Martha’s Vineyard.
Working as part of an experienced installation team, you’ll install photovoltaic systems that are safe, efficient, and built to perform for decades. You’ll contribute to every stage of installation—from layout and racking through commissioning support—while helping maintain the level of craftsmanship and professionalism that has defined SMCo for more than fifty years.

What You’ll Do

  • Install racking, modules, inverters, and other solar system components
  • Perform roof and ground-mounted installation work safely and efficiently
  • Lay out and stage materials for productive installation
  • Maintain exceptional workmanship and jobsite organization
  • Identify and help resolve installation issues in the field
  • Support commissioning and project closeout
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative crew culture
  • Represent SMCo professionally on every jobsite

What You Bring

  • Solar installation experience or strong residential/commercial construction experience
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools
  • An understanding of installation sequencing and workflow
  • Ability to work safely on roofs, ladders, and active construction sites
  • Dependability, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Pride in producing high-quality work
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A desire to continue learning and developing your trade
  • Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States
  • A Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician license is a plus, but not required. Candidates who are actively enrolled in, or have recently completed, the classroom education required for Massachusetts journeyman licensure are also encouraged to apply.

Projects You’ll Support

Our Solar team installs residential, commercial, nonprofit, affordable housing, and community solar projects across Martha’s Vineyard. Each project strengthens the island’s energy resilience while helping our clients reduce both energy costs and environmental impact.

We value your interest in our company and we look forward to receiving your application.
