Job description

Ready to join the future of innovation at NXP?

NXP Semiconductors enables secure connections and infrastructure for a smarter world, advancing solutions that make lives easier, better and safer. As the world leader in secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications, we are driving innovation in the secure connected vehicle, end-to-end security & privacy and smart connected solutions markets.  Built on more than 60 years of combined experience and expertise, the company has 45,000 employees in more than 35 countries. Additional information can be found by visiting www.nxp.com.

Passionate about Embedded Linux and Operating Systems? Come help build the Linux BSP software stack for NXP's S32 automotive processors — the low-level foundation that boots and runs the next generation of cars. You'll work hands-on across the entire Board Support Package — bootloader, firmware, hypervisor and kernel — and across device drivers and platform security. You'll develop embedded software, contribute upstream to the open-source communities behind the stack, and use modern agentic AI coding tools — growing your embedded-systems and automotive-grade quality skills alongside leading global experts.

Your responsibilities

  • Write and debug Embedded C (and some assembly) across the BSP — bootloader (U-Boot), firmware, hypervisor, kernel and device drivers
  • Contribute to SoC bring-up, from pre-silicon (emulation / virtual platforms) to first silicon, towards a stable Linux distribution
  • Develop new features and drivers for upcoming SoCs, and prototype / evaluate emerging technologies (e.g. virtualization, security)
  • Investigate and solve complex low-level problems across the hardware/software boundary
  • Work in large open-source codebases and contribute upstream / mainline
  • Build and customize Linux distributions with Yocto, and debug on target (serial, JTAG)
  • Use Python and modern developer tooling — including AI coding assistants — to learn, move faster and automate
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams and follow automotive software development processes

Your profile

  • Recent graduate (within 2 years of graduation) with a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field  or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with a systems programming language (e.g., C or C++)
  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment

We consider the following a plus

  • Experience with embedded systems, device drivers, or operating-system internals
  • Familiarity with bootloaders (e.g., U-Boot), build systems (e.g., Yocto / Buildroot), or cross-compilation
  • Computer architecture (ARM) and low-level debugging (JTAG / GDB)
  • Interest in open-source / upstream development and in modern developer tooling, including AI coding assistants
  • Exposure to automotive software standards (ISO 26262 / ASPICE)

This is a fantastic opportunity for people passionate about embedded systems and Linux Kernel development to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
