Job description
APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be apart of our journey.

As a Site Environmental Advisor, you will play an important role in supporting the North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB) Transformation Project, one of APM Terminals' largest strategic investment programmes. Based onsite in Bremerhaven, Germany, you will provide day-to-day environmental and HSE oversight throughout construction and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and project requirements. Working closely with contractors, regulators, and project teams, you will help maintain safe, compliant, and sustainable project delivery.

Location: Onsite in Bremerhaven, Germany

What We Can Offer

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Contribute to a major terminal transformation project focused on modernisation, sustainability, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities in an international environment.

  • Build your career within a global organisation committed to continuous improvement and responsible operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with environmental permits, German and EU environmental legislation, and project environmental requirements.
  • Conduct routine environmental and HSE inspections, identifying risks, non-conformities, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Review contractor environmental management plans, risk assessments, and implementation of mitigation measures across construction activities.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, spills, complaints, and near misses, supporting root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Monitor environmental performance across areas including waste management, pollution prevention, biodiversity, water quality, air emissions, dust, vibration, and soil protection.
  • Maintain environmental compliance registers, inspection reports, audit records, monitoring programmes, and weekly environmental performance reporting.
  • Support the HSSE Manager in promoting environmental awareness, contractor assurance, and compliance across the project.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently puts customers first, leads by example with respect for people, delivers results with integrity, and drives continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • 5–10 years of environmental management experience within construction, infrastructure, industrial, energy, or port projects.
  • Strong knowledge of German and EU environmental legislation, environmental permitting, compliance monitoring, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, Chemistry, or a related discipline. ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification is highly desirable.
