LINC13H3 - Language Diversity and Universals - Fall 2026
Course description: An introduction to linguistic typology with special emphasis on cross-linguistic variation and uniformity in phonology, morphology, and syntax.

Salary: In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the rate of pay applicable for Sessional Instructional Assistants will be: $55.25/hour, excluding vacation pay.
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics with a focus on morphology or syntax. Sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Strong research program in linguistic diversity and cross-linguistic analysis.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a Sessional Instructional Assistant for LINC13H3. Previous research experience with nominals, grammatical features of nouns (person, number, gender, case, etc.), noun phrases (morphosyntax and semantics of the noun phrase), DPs, and argument structure. Research experience involving a range of typologically diverse languages, including Indigenous languages and languages from major language families such as Indo-European.
Duties: Grading of assignments, quizzes, midterms, and final examinations; entering grades into Quercus; assisting with the creation of assignments and answer keys.
