Server Engineer - AI-Powered Search Team

We are looking for a Server Engineer to develop and operate Wix's AI-powered search infrastructure - a high-performance, distributed platform that combines  information retrieval with vector search, machine-learned ranking, LLMs, and intelligent orchestration. This role blends deep systems engineering with cloud-native infrastructure: you will own foundational components that serve search at the scale of hundreds of millions of sites and users, and drive key decisions on their architecture, design, and implementation.

You'll work across the full lifecycle of the systems you build - from design and development to how the service is deployed, operated, monitored, and scaled in production.

• Design, build, and operate core search components — indexing pipelines, retrieval algorithms, ranking systems, and vector/hybrid search — that run reliably at large scale

• Develop streaming and batch data-processing systems for search index construction in a high-load environment

• Integrate machine-learned models and LLMs into the serving path, applying AI to make sense of data in real time

• Design, deploy, and operate cloud-native systems on AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure

• Push the limits of hardware and Linux performance through low-level optimization, profiling, and systems-level tuning

• Strong background in systems design and backend development (Java, Scala, Python)

• Proven experience in building high-load, distributed, and performance-sensitive services, with ownership of the full project lifecycle — build, deploy, operate, and scale in production

• Solid Experience with cloud infrastructure and tools (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm)

• Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures

• Understanding of Linux internals and of performance tuning

Preferred

• Experience in search systems and databases, understanding of search fundamentals: indexing, query parsing, ranking, and relevance

• Familiarity with vector search / ANN, embeddings, and machine-learned model inference or LLM-based systems

• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK)
