Job Title: Senior R&D Engineer / Technical Lead – Toner Supplies

Job Level: Engineer IV (Leveling based on experience)
Business Unit: Toner Supplies & Solutions (TSS)
Location: Singapore or Seoul, South Korea (primary) with global collaboration (e.g., Singapore, HPPK, Canon)

Position Summary

HP is seeking a highly skilled Senior R&D Engineer / Technical Lead to drive toner supplies development, validation, and cross-functional execution for laser print platforms. This role plays a critical part in enabling New Product Introduction (NPI) success by integrating test strategy, material readiness, quality execution, and technical decision-making across global teams.

The position operates at the intersection of engineering depth and program leadership, requiring the ability to influence technical direction, business tradeoffs, and operational readiness. The candidate will work closely with HP internal teams, Canon OEM partners, and international stakeholders to ensure toner supplies systems meet performance, cost, and schedule targets.

Key Job Functions

1. NPI Test Strategy & Validation Leadership

  • Define, optimize, and execute toner supplies validation plans across development phases (concept through launch).
  • Lead coordination of testing activities including DIST, toner lab evaluation, ISO yield validation, e-label, and reliability testing.
  • Ensure test coverage aligns with program risks and customer use conditions.
  • Drive improvements in test efficiency, automation, and data quality.

2. Technical Decision Leadership & Risk Management

  • Lead technical assessments of product design changes and tradeoffs (e.g., print performance, reliability, cost).
  • Translate test data and engineering analysis into clear recommendations for program decisions.
  • Identify risks early and drive mitigation strategies across cross-functional teams.
  • Support major technical decision forums with structured analysis and clear data-driven narratives.

3. Cross-Functional Program Execution

  • Serve as a key technical interface across R&D, Quality, Firmware, Manufacturing, Finance, and Procurement organizations.
  • Align stakeholders on priorities, milestones, and deliverables to ensure execution against NPI schedules.
  • Work closely with OEM partners (e.g., Canon) and HP international teams (e.g., Singapore, HPPK) to ensure seamless global execution.

4. Serialization, Traceability & Compliance Initiatives

  • Lead or support toner cartridge serialization and authentication programs.
  • Connect technical implementation (QR codes, data structures, labeling) to business value and operational feasibility.
  • Ensure systems support track-and-trace requirements, audit readiness, and future product security needs.

5. Material Readiness & Procurement Coordination

  • Drive availability of test materials including cartridges, engines, and lab equipment.
  • Partner with procurement and operations teams to manage inventory, ordering, and budget execution.
  • Identify supply gaps early and develop mitigation plans to avoid schedule impacts.

6. Lab Infrastructure & Operational Readiness

  • Define and advocate for lab capacity, equipment, and facility requirements (e.g., chambers, staging areas, secured access).
  • Ensure environments are properly configured for safe, efficient testing and hardware protection.
  • Partner with site leadership to optimize lab utilization and expansion planning as needed.

7. Prototype Control & Audit Support

  • Maintain strict accountability of development hardware and cartridges.
  • Support compliance processes related to audits, traceability, and asset tracking.
  • Improve processes for transparency and control across distributed teams.

8. Executive Communication & Technical Influence

  • Develop clear, concise communication for leadership reviews, technical forums, and checkpoint meetings.
  • Create presentation materials that simplify complex technical topics into actionable insights.
  • Influence decision-making through strong technical credibility and cross-functional engagement.

Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Deep understanding of toner supplies systems, print performance, and lifecycle behaviors
  • Strong experience in validation/test strategy and data-driven engineering decisions
  • Knowledge of materials, reliability testing, and print system interactions
  • Familiarity with serialization, labeling, or traceability systems (preferred)

Leadership & Execution Competencies

  • Ability to lead without authority across global, cross-functional teams
  • Strong program execution discipline with ability to manage ambiguity
  • Proven track record of driving technical decisions under schedule pressure
  • High ownership mindset with proactive problem-solving capability

Business & Communication Competencies

  • Ability to connect technical decisions to cost, schedule, and customer value
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for executive audiences
  • Experience supporting business cases or tradeoff analysis
  • Effective stakeholder management, including OEM and international teams

Leveling Guidelines

Engineer IV (Staff / Technical Lead)

  • Leads major technical areas or cross-functional workstreams across programs
  • Influences product and business decisions with significant impact
  • Operates with high autonomy in ambiguous environments
  • Acts as a recognized expert and mentor within the organization
  • Drives alignment across global teams and senior stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 6–10+ years of experience (Engineer III) or 10+ years (Engineer IV) in engineering or product development
  • Experience in print systems, supplies engineering, or similar hardware/product environments strongly preferred
  • Proven experience working in cross-functional and global teams

What Success Looks Like

  • Programs launch on time with robust, risk-mitigated test coverage
  • Critical technical decisions are made with clear data and stakeholder alignment
