Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Performance/ Simulation/ Application Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Dr., Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems. Perform integration of truck controls and plant models of components and subsystems into a powertrain system model. Execute performance studies of L5 power system including subsystems, engine/battery, transmission/e-drivetrain, lower powertrain, hydraulic, thermal system using Dynasty (or equivalent software like GT Suite or AMESim). Work on truck machine system concept performance simulation to influence early product concepts and control software design decisions to improve existing products by resolving performance issues. Develop or improve simulation related processes and technologies. Analyze results and assess machine performance, including fuel/energy consumption, productivity, and reliability. Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. Communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Make decisions which impact product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability. Manage negotiations with suppliers and leverage new technologies. Handle warranty, total cost of non-quality, costs, sales, and customer perception. Direct contact with products, machines, or components while working in the field or at customer sites or direct contact with suppliers and customers to develop processes or resolve problems.

REQS: This position requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Management or a related field plus 2 years of experience performing identification, analysis and resolution of engineering issues for engine/battery, transmission/e-drivetrain and lower powertrain systems or related occupation. In the alternative, will accept a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Management or a related field, plus 5 years of experience performing identification, analysis and resolution of engineering issues for engine/battery, transmission/e-drivetrain and lower powertrain systems or related occupation.

Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) 1 year performing validation of controls models through the comparison of simulation test results to onmachine test data; (2) Software in the loop set up and validation; (3) Integration of truck controls and plant models of components and subsystems into a powertrain system model; (4) Interfacing software libraries with machine models; (5) Manage machine models in GIT tools; and (6) Matlab/Simulink, CANape, Python.

Summary Pay Range:

$131,227.00 to $169,060.00 per year

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.  Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
