This team is responsible for planning services for BEV owners. They are composed of experts in electric power, software, UX, and new business development. They collaborate with the in-house power operations team in Woven City and other related departments within Toyota Motor Corporation to support Toyota’s transition to “Mobility Company” by creating new electricity services. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Beyond the technical, you’ll need to think from a user’s perspective, work across teams and most importantly, be able to communicate on a number of levels with technical / product / business stakeholders. Our products need to be understandable by other developer teams within the company and also at Toyota to be maintainable, reliable and extensible for our own needs. The team operates with an agile approach, emphasizing speed and efficiency in project planning. We are seeking someone who can enjoy the dynamism and problem-solving involved.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize state of the art technology to design, develop, and deploy the optimization engine controlling BEV charging/discharging to minimize household energy costs
- Build, train, and evaluate machine learning / optimization models (e.g., forecasting energy prices, demand, and vehicle usage; formulating and solving the control/optimization problem)
- Work with other engineers and the product manager, understand the needs of the complex environment and align development accordingly
- Identify issues, propose solutions, and solve problems, from a technical standpoint, by leading communication with internal & external stakeholders
- Work with integration teams to ensure the technologies you create, work usefully and seamlessly
- Mentor team members and promote engineering best practices through documentation, collaboration, and code quality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent area
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in machine learning / optimization / data science
- Strong programming skills particularly in Python & Go and ML frameworks
- Experience taking ML models from prototype to production
- Knowledge of one or more cloud compute platforms, such as AWS
- Strong business communication skills with stakeholders
- Strong background in areas relevant to designing core, well tested building blocks that others can rely on
- Ability to think, design and code for the user’s perspective
- An infectious passion for solving complex problems, learning new techniques and technologies
- Business-level proficiency in Japanese / English
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience with container technologies like Docker and container management systems like Kubernetes
- Experience with build systems, continuous integration and/or continuous deployment (CI/CD)
- Experience working with GPU compute (for ML components)
