Job description

Leidos has an opening for a Senior Flight Software and Avionics Engineer to support the Cargo Mission Contract team in Houston, Texas. The engineer will provide space flight software and avionics support for newly developed hardware in support of ISS, HLS, moonbase, and commercial space programs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking development of end-to-end avionics system architecture
  • Developing schematics for power distribution, communication lines, and central processing system or embedded system, related peripherals (sensors, actuators, switches)
  • Work with a team to design, develop, and test embedded flight software
  • Design and build functional, efficient, dependable, secure, and maintainable software
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on board-level firmware and circuit designs
  • Execute test plans and procedures in Hardware-in-the-Loop testbeds and support test automation platforms to facilitate CI/CD initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with other engineers and technicians (electrical, mechanical, embedded) to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions into real-time software
  • Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and SDR
  • Give and receive productive feedback during collaboration and in design and code reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science and electrical electronics engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with embedded systems programming (e.g. microcontrollers, single board computer) in Linux and real-time software environments. C/C++ proficiency mandatory
  • Experience with development and testing of LabView Applications to build automated test, measurement, and control systems
  • Capable of identifying and solving complex problems, building solutions with little to no supervision or direction
  • Experience with spaceflight or other safety critical systems
  • Experience working with operating systems, file systems, and bootloaders
  • Experience with Bitbucket or Gitlab and Jenkins software tools, and Agile software development processes
  • Familiar with containerization supporting Continuous Development/Continuous Integration pipelines on Linux Systems

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in computer science and electrical electronics engineering or related fields
  • 2+ years of experience with spaceflight projects (payloads, satellites, spacecrafts)
  • Experience with developing Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) systems and subsystems
  • Electrical PCB design, schematics development, analysis, routing and testing

Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
