As a core member of our design team, our Senior Firmware Engineer takes ownership of embedded code in our rich robotics platform, streamlines and enhances it, while also helping to define the next generation of code for upcoming systems. Responsibilities cover motor controller boards, sensor data acquisition systems, digital audio acquisition and transmission, and acting as a liaison between the hardware and software teams.


Working directly with different engineering disciplines, the Senior Firmware Engineer will also be involved in hardware architecture decisions and platform capabilities.

  • 5+ years experience in embedded software development, with DC motor control critical
  • Development on ARM-based SoCs, primarily in C
  • Ability to manage engineering specifications, define fail safe requirements, author test plans, and provide clear documentation
  • Experience taking software deliverables from prototype to production (coordinating deployments with operations, tracking enhancements, ensuring robust in-field upgradeability for continued development)
  • Comfortable working with common mobile interfaces (I2C, SPI, SDIO, I2S, USB)
  • Strong communication and organization skills, experience working with small cross-functional teams (mechanical, firmware, software, product management)
  • Familiarity interpreting schematics, operating lab instruments and reading serial bus traces
  • Ability to operate within SVN and Mercurial repositories
  • Experience with electro-mechanical interfaces, including all manner of sensors, DC motor driver circuits, and PID control
  • Familiarity with WiFi/Bluetooth radios
