Job description

[What the role is]

You will be responsible for providing secretariat support to the MUIS Council and the Appeal Board constituted under Section 55 of the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA). The role requires strong stakeholder management, meticulous documentation, and the ability to coordinate across multiple internal and external agencies to ensure statutory processes are executed on time, in scope, and in compliance with relevant rules and procedures

[What you will be working on]

  • Support the secretariat function for the MUIS Council, including assisting in ensuring statutory obligations relating to meeting frequency, minutes, and ministerial submissions are met in a timely and compliant manner.

  • Assist in managing Council member transitions and appointments, supporting compliance with legal and procedural deadlines such as gazettement and helping to onboard new members effectively.

  • Support procedural and documentary compliance for all appeal cases in accordance with Appeal Board rules under Section 55 of AMLA and other related rules.

  • Assist in coordinating case hearings and stakeholder communications to ensure cases proceed within set timeframes, including logistics such as remote hearings.

  • Maintain working relationships with external agencies, including ROMM, Syariah Court, MCCY, the Police, and any other relevant agencies.

[What we are looking for]

  • Tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent professional certifications or relevant work experience in lieu of formal qualifications are welcome to apply.

  • Relevant working experience in secretariat support, or statutory and regulatory affairs.

  • Prior experience liaising across government agencies, legal parties, and community stakeholders will be an advantage.

  • Good organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and concurrent deadlines.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in minute-taking and formal correspondence.

  • Candidates with more experience may be considered for a Manager-level role.

Successful candidate will be appointed on a contract basis.
