In this role you will enable BraunAbility’s continued leadership to make the world more accessible to people with mobility challenges by developing electrical hardware and software products across the full range of BraunAbility’s product portfolio. You will help BraunAbility navigate challenges related to autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, changes in automotive electrical architectures. This position offers a unique opportunity for an initiative-taking and skilled professional to contribute to cutting-edge projects in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. 

You will be part of a small team focused on hardware & software design, integration, and testing of controllers and sensors to support R&D wheelchair accessibility projects. The position is hybrid allowing remote work as projects permit with an office in Carmel, IN. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, and test electrical hardware for various applications.Specific tasks include: 

  • Working with the cross-functional team to develop product requirements. 

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics for various applications. 

  • Generate circuit board layouts. 

  • Coordinating with external vendors for board manufacturing and/or populating on site. 

  • Verifying design requirements through testing and analysis. 

  • Develop and optimize embedded software solutions using C or C++, including: 

  • Collaborating with the cross-functional team to develop product requirements. 

  • Developing comprehensive software designs 

  • Writing software code adhering to industry best practices 

  • Writing test code to ensure compliance with all requirements.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware and software systems. 

  • Analyze and troubleshoot system performance to ensure reliability and efficiency. 

  • Document technical designs, processes, and procedures. 

  • Develop tools, processes, and procedures to enhance product innovation, time to market, and reliability.  

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and embedded systems. 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electrical engineering. 

  • Strong experience in designing and developing hardware systems. 

  • Proven history developing hardware and software that includes: 

  • CAN 

  • Motor controls (brushed and brushless DC motors) 

  • Digital and analog sensors (hall effect, 9-degree of freedom position sensors, etc.) 

  • Relays 

  • Firsthand experience with testing and debugging tools for hardware and software. 

  • Proficiency in embedded software programming (C and/or C++). 

  • Adherence to industry best-practices for software design and coding. 

  • Experience developing smart algorithms. 

  • Experience working within an Agile project management framework. 

  • Experience with hardware manufacturing techniques.  

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail. 

  • Persuasive communication and teamwork skills. 

  • Self-driven with a strong passion for innovation and technology. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively. 

Preferred Attributes 

  • Experience with vision systems (camera selection, collecting / labeling data, developing machine learning models, etc.) development 

  • Ability to design enclosures for the electrical design 

  • Experience with cybersecurity, CMII / ASPICE and functional safety 

  • Hardware and software design experience for connected devices (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, cybersecurity, etc.).  

  • Experience managing external vendors
