Position Purpose:

BlackLocus is the center of excellence for competitive intelligence within The Home Depot, a $160+ billion-dollar company and the top home-improvement retailer. Key accountabilities of BlackLocus: 

  • Collect competitive intelligence at scale 

  • Match Home Depot products to competitor products and identify product relationships at scale 

  • Automatically price over 3 million online-only products 

  • Leverage GenAI to surface key insights related to competitive intelligence, assortment, and pricing 

  

This specific position may focus on any or all of BlackLocus’ key accountabilities, and the mix may vary over time. Regardless of area of focus, this person will directly influence competitive intelligence, pricing, and assortment decisions for a Fortune 25 company. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • 25% Design and develop algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create business insights.
  • 25% Provide direction on prioritization of work, ensure quality of work outputs, and develop the competencies of direct reports.
  • 20% Establishing scalable, efficient processes for large scale data analyses, model development and model implementation
  • 20% Solve problems creatively with strategic insights. Leverage data to present a compelling business case to optimize price points.
  • 10% Remain knowledgeable on advancements in data science and machine learning. Identify opportunities to apply learnings.


Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Position reports to Director Engineering BL Lab
  • Number of direct reports = 1


Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.


 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, etc.) 

  • Extensive experience with Python and SQL 

  • Outstanding skills in data cleaning, data analysis, predictive analytics, causal inference, and machine learning 

  • Experience designing, testing, deploying, and scaling advanced AI systems: 

  • Developing generative AI and agent-based solutions 

  • Leveraging cloud AI platforms, embedding techniques, and multimodal models 

  • Applying prompt optimization and statistical analysis to drive system performance 

  • Strong software engineering skills, including development of scalable, maintainable, production-grade systems 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into easily interpretable material for business stakeholders 

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
