Senior Data Protection Coordinator @ING Hubs Romania

The Mission 

The Senior Data Protection Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering day-to-day data protection services to entities within the ING Group. The Senior Data Protection Coordinator will be part of a global team of 40+ experts, working closely with the Global Lead for Data Protection Services, both global and local Data Protection teams, global and local DPO teams enabling the strategic design, implementation and monitoring of data protection activities within the Group. 

Your day to day: 

Daily activities include collaboration with the relevant stakeholders to: 

• Drive the implementation of the GDPR and other relevant legislation, through leading the design & implementation of complex data protection processes, data protection tooling, as well as data protection policies, procedures and controls facilitating an E2E enterprise data protection risk management process within ING;

• Engage with the services team’s international clients spread across continents - EU, US, ASIA; 

• Provide support and assistance on data protection matters for international clients on the entire spectrum of data protection topics – mapping of personal data, performing of relevant assessments (DPIA, LIA, TIA etc.), data breach management, data subjects’ right management, 3rd party contracting & monitoring, privacy by design, storage limitation etc.  

• Drive the innovation process enhancement activities as well as client expansion activities, actively participating in the development of the data protection services strategy (liaise with global leads, actively participate in global decision forums to represent the team’s strategy and interests by enhancing the overall business value);

• Take on AI Act regulatory compliance related duties through mapping, classifying and assessing AI usecases (e.g., inventory, performance of FRIA as well as other relevant assessments);  

• Offer assistance for the regular testing exercises, as well as Quality Assurance & Audit missions;

• Creating awareness and deliver trainings on data protection compliance;

• Prepare and report on data protection related metrics and other activity reports and presentations to Group and local stakeholders and bodies in case required;

• Lead initiatives end-to-end, from problem definition and solution design through implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement, while proactively managing risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations;

• Think strategically, transforming regulatory requirements into scalable business solutions, challenging existing approaches, and developing recommendations that stand up to senior stakeholder scrutiny;

• Act as a trusted advisor, influencing and aligning stakeholders across functions, geographies, and management levels, facilitating consensus, and driving outcomes even in complex environments;

• Drive innovation and service evolution, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency, improved client experience, and new service capabilities that enhance organizational maturity and scalability;

• Operate with a global mindset, understanding how local decisions influence broader organizational objectives and aligning priorities with enterprise-wide goals. 
    

What you bring to the team 

• Bachelor’s degree with approx. 5 years of professional experience in the control/ audit/ consultancy services/ compliance/ legal field connected to the data protection area, preferably in a similar business environment (banking/IT);

• Knowledge of the national and European data protection laws and practices, knowledge of the business sector, understand the processing operations, technologies and data security;

• Good understanding of general banking environment, governance structure, and banking products, services and operational flows;

• Good stakeholder management skills;

• Knowledge of data governance, data quality and data ethics is a plus;

• Legal background and relevant data protection qualifications are a plus: CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, AIGP;

• Ability to develop working processes that provide structure and discipline;

• Experienced user of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel and Power Point are a must);

• Very good organizing skills, team player with strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills, problem solving oriented, logical and open-minded, ability to work independently;

• English (writing, speaking) advanced.
