We are! Our Retail Business Intelligence team within ASO is looking for a resourceful, energetic Senior Data Engineer to serve as a data subject matter expert across high-impact capital projects. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams to define how the success of major business initiatives is measured, tracked and understood. Day-to-day responsibilities in the Retail Business Intelligence team include partnering with IT teams to build critical data pipelines, ad hoc data analyses, troubleshooting data and supporting project teams during all stages of projects including, requirement gatherings, gap reviews, development and testing. Description

Working in a global organization, this position plays a substantial role in defining how data is structured, organized and evaluated to measure the performance and impact of capital projects across Apple Store Online. A key success factor for this role is the ability to engage early in project lifecycles, establish data requirements and measurement frameworks and ensure that analytical deliverables are ready to support go-live and beyond. In this role, you will:

* Act as the primary data SME across a portfolio of capital projects, ensuring that data strategy is established early and maintained throughout the project lifecycle

* Partner with project managers, business stakeholders, and IT teams to translate initiative goals into clear data requirements and measurable success criteria

* Design and build reporting layers and certified datasets that capture end-to-end performance of business initiatives — from launch through steady-state operation

* Conduct ad hoc analyses and data investigations to surface insights, validate outcomes, and support executive decision-making

* Lead requirements gathering, gap reviews, data validation, and UAT across projects

* Provide consultation and training to business partners on how to interpret and leverage data assets tied to their initiatives

* Lead regular design and code reviews and perform debugging and coding to resolve issues

* The ideal candidate has a real passion for quality, a strong instinct for business impact, and the ability to navigate complexity across multiple concurrent projects

Minimum Qualifications

Expert SQL skills with 7+ years of ETL and query optimization experience
Extensive Semantic Layer (ESL) development experience in relational database and data lake environments
Extensive experience performing data validation against complex, disparate systems
Proficiency in PHP and/or Python for scripting or data manipulation, with experience creating or modifying HTML/CSS/JS-based applications or front-end tools, and deploying into cloud environments (Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, AWS, or equivalent)
Professional proficiency in both Mandarin and English, written and verbal
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a relevant field with 7+ years of experience directly related to role requirements
Strong business mindset with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, produce IT-friendly business requirements documentation, and communicate complex concepts clearly to senior leaders
Structured problem solver who can break down ambiguous challenges, lead decisively under uncertainty, and provide goal-oriented direction across projects, programs, and processes
Proven track record of contributing to and influencing deliverables within large global cross-functional teams, with domain experience in e-commerce, Retail, Finance, Operations, or Contact Center systems and datasets
Proactive technologist who independently picks up new skills and drives innovation — including familiarity with modern AI practices such as embedding vectors, knowledge graphs, and agentic workflows integrated into data-driven pipelines
Experience supporting data and analytics needs across complex, multi-track capital projects including requirements definition, measurement framework design, and post-launch performance tracking
