Senior Backend Engineer (Integrations)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Integrations team. In this role, you'll drive the architecture, development, and scalability of backend systems and APIs that connect our platform with the wider ecosystem. We value innovation and are seeking someone eager to bring fresh ideas – especially around integration patterns, API design, and cloud-native backend architectures.

What You’ll Do

• Partner across departments (Product, Integrations, and Platform teams) and work with external partners to evaluate technical trade-offs and guide direction.

• Proactively identify cross-team technical risks and implement backend process and system improvements.

• Use data and observability insights to drive architectural decisions, optimize performance, and measure system impact.

• Design, build, and evolve backend architectures and APIs focused on reliability, performance, and scalability.

• Review backend code to set high standards and mentor engineers through design feedback, RFCs, and technical guidance.

Who You Are

• Relevant experience as a backend engineer working on production systems and distributed architectures.

• A customer-first mindset supported by data-driven decision-making when designing scalable APIs.

• A passion for continuous learning, coaching, and team development through code reviews and technical mentorship.

• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, ownership-focused, and empathetic approach.

• Proven track record in API design, handling failure modes, and managing technical debt in production environments.

What Success Looks Like

Within 3 Months:

• Fully onboarded into the Rossum ecosystem and building relationships across the team.

• Gaining a deep understanding of our synergy with Coupa and our shared roadmap.

• Building a solid grasp of Rossum’s backend architecture and identifying initial technical risks or improvement opportunities in the Integrations domain.

Within 6 Months:

• Independently managing key responsibilities and identifying areas for strategic improvement.

• Actively participating in the alignment of processes within the new Coupa organizational structure.

• Leading the design and delivery of significant backend integration initiatives while raising architectural consistency across teams.

Within 12 Months:

• Recognized as a subject matter expert within the team, navigating the global Coupa ecosystem.

• Successfully contributing to Rossum’s mission at a massive scale using new global resources.

• Ensuring backend services scale reliably with customer usage while establishing shared engineering best practices.
