Job description
We are looking for an Accounting Manager who is pro-active, self directed, and someone who possesses an atypical high quality bar for themselves and their work product. If you have a solid background in auditing and client service and you are ready to move on from public accounting to start your career in private industry, then this may be the role for you!
This position will report directly to the Assistant Controller and handle all aspects of the month-end close process. We are a small group, so this individual will have direct exposure to the Controller, CFO and other levels of management. The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of experience with a mix of public accounting and private industry and a genuine interest in our growing business. We are looking for a professional with the resourcefulness to manage a team to take on a new project, think through it, and readily grasp the quickest, easiest way to get to the goal.

Education
Bachelor's degree with a major or emphasis in Accounting from a major university

Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include (but will not necessarily be limited to):
- Managing and directing the month-end close process, ensuring the appropriate application of GAAP and company policies, reviewing and posting journal entries, identifying accruals and preparing reconciliations
- Managing staff as well as peers to ensure close activities are proactively being performed in advance of month-end
- Reviewing complex transactions, researching and documenting the appropriate accounting treatment
- Reviewing all balance sheet and expense account reconciliations for accuracy
- Utilizing judgment to make decisions on soft accruals and reserve requirements
- Acting as a main contact for annual internal and external audits, including managing the preparation of audit schedules and preparing financial statements and footnotes
- Driving IRS, property, state regulatory, etc. audits when needed and managing the preparation of periodic quarterly/annual regulatory filings (property taxes, sales taxes, census forms, etc.)
- Acting as a main liaison between accounting and the technology team in the development of new systems
- Assisting with the management and maintenance of the company?s accounting system, Oracle
- Ensuring complete and accurate integration of data from one or more external sources into Oracle
- Identifying general process improvements and leading the creation and maintenance of process documentation
- Identifying and managing the preparation of ad hoc reporting and analyses as needed
- Providing mentorship and learning development to Staff and Senior Accountants

Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years of experience, with at least 4 years of public accounting experience from a Big 4 accounting firm required (position title is flexible depending on the level of experience)
- Successful prior experience managing a team of at least two individuals
- Sound technical knowledge of basic accounting principles with prior practical application
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft business suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
- Experience working with Oracle, a plus
- Analytical skills with the ability to think critically
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization
- A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to multi-task and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented mindset and a high sense of urgency
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work extended hours during critical periods such as month and year-end
- Team oriented outlook with a positive attitude and a fit with our Acme culture
