Job description

Truliant’s mission is to improve lives by putting our members first, providing great service and straightforward financial solutions. Our core values of Member Focus, Service, Guidance, Relationships, and Community define how we interact with members to fulfill our mission of improving lives and providing a foundation on which we conduct ourselves.

Our Promise to Our Teammates: Truliant strives to provide all teammates with an enjoyable place to work where they feel valued, empowered and rewarded for all that they do.

Why this role matters

At Truliant Federal Credit Union, helping businesses access the right financing strengthens the communities and members we serve. As an SBA Business Development Officer, you’ll expand Truliant’s presence in the SBA marketplace by building trusted referral partnerships and guiding borrowers through financing for acquisitions, expansion, refinancing, commercial real estate, and working capital. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys developing relationships, structuring complex opportunities, and turning market connections into meaningful business growth.

What you’ll do

In this role, you’ll serve as Truliant’s primary market-facing representative and subject matter expert for SBA 7(a) lending. You’ll own externally sourced loan development from initial opportunity through credit and closing, while keeping borrowers, referral partners, and internal teams aligned throughout the process.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Build and expand a network of business brokers, CPAs, attorneys, commercial real estate brokers, franchise consultants, bankers, and other professional partners who generate SBA 7(a) opportunities.

  • Screen opportunities for SBA eligibility, structure transactions, and prepare a BDO workbook with high-level cash flow analysis, a clear transaction narrative, and key risk considerations.

  • Partner with SBA credit, underwriting, loan coordination, closing, and portfolio management teams to move qualified opportunities from early review through closing and ongoing borrower communication.

What you bring

We’re looking for an experienced SBA lender who combines market development skills with strong credit knowledge, clear communication, and disciplined follow-through. Successful candidates can earn trust with external partners, evaluate opportunities thoughtfully, and coordinate effectively across the full SBA loan lifecycle.

Required Experience:

  • 2-5+ years of SBA lending experience.

  • Annual SBA 7(a) production of $15 million or greater.

Required Skills:

  • Apply strong knowledge of SBA SOP, credit principles, and the SBA 7(a) process to screen, structure, and advance loan opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain external referral relationships that consistently generate SBA loan opportunities.

  • Present transaction structures, approved terms, conditions, and timelines clearly to borrowers, referral partners, and internal stakeholders.

  • Understand and coordinate the business processes within the SBA loan lifecycle, including prescreening, packaging, underwriting, closing, and portfolio communication.

  • Use Microsoft Excel and Word at an intermediate level to analyze and organize opportunity information.

  • Manage details, priorities, and deadlines independently in a virtual office environment while collaborating closely with SBA teammates.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or a related field.

You should also be comfortable operating with minimal supervision, adjusting your approach as market conditions shift, and representing Truliant with professionalism and responsiveness in external meetings, events, and industry forums.

What sets you apart

You don’t need to check every box, but here’s what will help you thrive in this role:

  • An established network of SBA referral partners, such as business brokers, CPAs, attorneys, commercial real estate brokers, franchise consultants, or bankers.

  • Experience financing business acquisitions, expansions, refinances, commercial real estate, or working capital transactions through SBA 7(a) lending.

  • Experience representing an SBA program through community activities, industry events, or professional forums.

What you’ll get

We believe in supporting our team members both professionally and personally.

In this role, you can expect:

  • A highly visible opportunity to grow Truliant’s SBA presence by building relationships across the business and professional community.

  • Ownership of meaningful financing opportunities that can help business owners acquire, expand, refinance, and invest in their companies.

  • Close partnership with experienced SBA credit, underwriting, coordination, closing, and portfolio management teammates.

  • The opportunity to deepen your SBA expertise while representing a member-focused credit union known for professionalism, responsiveness, and service.

  • Career development, competitive benefits, and the chance to make a measurable contribution to Truliant’s SBA program and the businesses it serves.
