What You'll Do

The Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist (RMPSS) is responsible for advancing a culture of safety, reducing preventable harm, and promoting high reliability principles throughout the organization. This role partners with clinical and operational leaders to proactively identify risks, analyze safety trends, and implement sustainable process improvements that enhance patient outcomes, strengthen regulatory compliance, and reduce system vulnerabilities.

The RMPSS supports the organization's patient safety program through the assessment, investigation, and analysis of patient safety events, close calls, and opportunities for improvement. The position oversees the collection, review, protection, and reporting of patient safety information within the organization's Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES), ensuring timely and accurate submission of information to the contracted federally listed Patient Safety Organization (PSO). The RMPSS also leads patient safety initiatives, facilitates event reviews and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), monitors safety metrics and trends, and supports the organization's High Reliability Organization (HRO) journey.

In addition, the RMPSS plays a key role in mitigating organizational risk through the administration and management of professional and general liability claims and potential claims. Responsibilities include claim intake and triage, investigation and evaluation of liability exposure, identification of contributing factors and risk trends, and collaboration with operational leaders, insurers, brokers, and legal counsel to support risk management and litigation strategies. The position coordinates all aspects of the discovery process, including interrogatories, document production, record review, witness preparation, and depositions, and may represent the organization during administrative proceedings, hearings, mediations, or trials, as appropriate.
