Job description

Scaled Foundations is an AI research and deployment company building a platform for general robot intelligence. Our mission is to enable rapid, robust, and safe deployment of general intelligence for autonomous systems and robotics. We aspire to become the starting point for AI-powered autonomous systems across a diverse set of scenarios. We are currently seeking experienced Field Robotics Researchers to join our team to enable our technology on real robots and use cases.

Researcher - Role Responsibilities

  • Independently set up different types of robots such as ground, aerial, and manipulation for real life deployments along with associated edge compute and sensor packages..

  • Deploy state of the art machine learning models and techniques on real robots and lead field deployment and evaluation efforts.

  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments independently with specific and well thought-out hypotheses in mind.

  • Design data collection routines for real robots so as to acquire data from real tests and use it for finetuning/refinement of models.

  • Understand the model architectures used and its effects on real deployments. In general, you have a good understanding of computer vision and machine learning from a robotics perspective, even though you may not be up to date with the state of the art.

  • Aware of common systems considerations such as bandwidth, compute, latency issues and so on, and factor this into modeling choices. Be able to come up with optimization possibilities to improve performance on edge compute devices.

  • Work closely with the machine learning and simulation teams to apply newly developed techniques in the field, and communicate insights and metrics from real life tests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Masters degree in Robotics, Computer Science, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  • 2+ years experience with development and implementation of robotics or machine learning algorithms, control algorithms.

  • Strong knowledge of robotics hardware and software stacks, such as ROS, and programming languages, such as Python, C++ etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and evaluating work and end-to-end prototypical robot learning systems.

  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and deploying controllers, data acquisition pipelines, and machine learning or classical robotics algorithms on several robots in the past.

  • Experience with aerial robotics architectures such as PX4, ArduPilot.

  • Experience using constrained edge compute devices such as NVIDIA Jetson for data acquisition and model inference.

  • Experience working with sensitive data and adhering to strict security protocols.
