Research Senior Technician - Anesthesiology

The Research Senior Technician will assist and support scientific investigations to study the impact of diabetes and hyperglycemic memory on surgical and implant outcomes, as directed by the Department of Anesthesiology. The role involves independently conducting assigned experiments and performing a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques, including but not limited to PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Northern and Western analyses. Responsibilities also include sorting and processing tissue and blood samples, testing and evaluating current procedures, and performing routine procedures on laboratory animals. The individual will record, consolidate, and assist with the analysis of research results, evaluate the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures, and summarize findings for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts. Additional duties include preparing research progress reports, assisting the principal investigator with publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts, and conducting library research through current literature. The position also oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities, assists with training junior research staff and undergraduate/graduate students in research methods and equipment operation, sets up and operates laboratory equipment, and monitors research supplies, specimens, and inventory, initiating procurement requests as needed.

Job Duties

60% - Assists and supports scientific investigation to study the impact of diabetes and hyperglycemic memory on surgical and implant outcomes as directed; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures and provides feedback to research team; performs routine procedures on lab animals; maintains and oversees animal breeding colonies and/or transgenic mouse colonies; assists with care of lab animals; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities.

20% - Records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals, manuscripts and professional presentations; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature

10% - Assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed; other duties as assigned

10% - Other Duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Years of relevant experience required: 0 years with Bachelor's Degree, 2 years with Associate's Degree, or 4 years with High School Diploma
