Research Scientist – Process Data Management & Software (m/f/x)
Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH
Enabling smaller, more powerful and more energy-efficient microchips.
Where tomorrow is created.
What is one component no smartphone can do without?
That's right – the microchip, the core of every electronically controlled system. Around 80% of all microchips worldwide are manufactured using ZEISS technologies. With highly precise lithography optics, photomask systems, and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, playing a key role in shaping the era of micro- and nanoelectronics through continuous innovation.
Do you want to help drive the digital transformation with us?
Manufacturing our highly sophisticated products requires a wide range of interconnected processes and software solutions that make our complex dependencies manageable. These processes need to be designed, data flows modeled, and software development activities coordinated and supported.
This is exactly what we do – and we're looking for you to strengthen our team.
Your role
- Analyze manufacturing processes in their overall context and develop, continuously improve, and take ownership of practical data management solutions for development projects and end users
- Drive the strategic evolution of existing data management systems for product and specification data in close collaboration with stakeholders from R&D, manufacturing, and IT
- Independently plan, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of software enhancements together with internal and external software development teams
- Ensure the effective adoption of developed solutions by providing training, guidance, and hands-on user support
- Present your concepts, project results, and recommendations to project teams and internal stakeholders
Your profile
- You have an excellent university degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and several years of experience in scientific research, ideally gained as part of a PhD program
- You are experienced in structuring and formalizing requirements and have the ability to understand and resolve complex interdependencies. Ideally, you have also gained initial experience in analyzing and documenting technical processes
- You have a strong affinity for data and software, are familiar with working with different data types and formats, understand the principles of sustainable and maintainable software, and are familiar with the fundamental concepts of modern software engineering
- You are motivated to gain a deep understanding of real-world manufacturing processes, their challenges, and their constraints, and are passionate about developing practical, sustainable solutions
- You demonstrate a high degree of initiative, independence, structured thinking, and a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to your work
- You are business fluent in both German and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
