Your next career opportunity 
You will develop innovative statistical methods for high-throughput omics data in the Lê Cao lab. You will contribute to internationally visible tools like mixOmics, collaborate widely, and build a strong publication record.

What you will deliver: 

  • Develop advanced statistical methods and multivariate models for integrative analysis of high-dimensional omics datasets.

  • Produce high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations.

  • Build and maintain reproducible software, workflows, and documentation, including contributions to the mixOmics ecosystem.

  • Collaborate with internal and external researchers to translate methods into applied omics analyses and usable tools.

  • Support training activities, student supervision, and Melbourne Integrative Genomics seminars and events.

You may be a great fit if you: 

  • Hold or are near completion of a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or statistics.

  • Demonstrate strong capability in developing statistical methods for high-dimensional omics data.

  • Bring experience analysing diverse omics datasets, from preprocessing through interpretation and biological insight.

  • Maintain an active GitHub profile with well-documented code, version control, and collaborative contributions.

  • Possess familiarity with R packages, multivariate analysis, and HPC or cloud-based computational environments.

  • Show enthusiasm for mentoring students, engaging in seminars, and contributing to an inclusive research culture.

Your new team – School of Mathematics and Statistics
Within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, you will join the Lê Cao lab at Melbourne Integrative Genomics. This interdisciplinary centre unites statisticians, bioinformaticians, and biologists to tackle complex genotype–phenotype questions using omics data. You will benefit from collaborations across the Parkville biomedical precinct and a supportive Faculty of Science community.

    • PhD (or near completion) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics

    • Demonstrated research capability in statistical methods development for high-dimensional omics data, evidenced through PhD work and associated outputs (for example publications, preprints, software).

    • Demonstrated experience in analysing high-dimensional biological data, including appropriate preprocessing and interpretation of results.

    • Demonstrated experience in version control on Github and an active GitHub profile evidencing ongoing code development and/or contributions

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical collaborators.

    • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage tasks to deliver outcomes to agreed timelines.
