Research Associate/ Research Fellow, Agent-Based Modelling & Simulation
Nanyang Technological University
Apply to this jobThe School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), Nanyang Technological University, is the host school for the project “Building Community Resilience Against Sea-Level Rise” (Grant H2_2024-3_T10). The project is funded by the National Parks Board (NParks) under the Marine Climate Change Science Coastal Protection (MCCS) call and brings together CEE and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) to integrate geospatial modelling, behavioural risk-perception research, agent-based simulation, and community engagement design in support of Singapore’s coastal adaptation efforts.
We are looking for a Research Associate/Research Fellow to design and deliver Module D of the NParks MCCS project: the agent-based modelling (ABM) and simulation work that forecasts long-term community adaptation to sea-level rise. We welcome applicants from computational social science, complex systems, operations research, or related computational fields.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, calibrate, and validate an Agent-Based Model for 15-year adaptation forecasting (Module D).
Use archetype outputs (from latent-class analysis) as inputs to ABM agent profiles.
Conduct scenario planning to forecast long-term adaptation trends.
Contribute to project reports, conference presentations, and top-tier journal publications.
Job Requirements (Essential):
PhD, or a strong master’s in computer science, Computational Social Science, Complex Systems, Operations Research, or a related field.
Strong agent-based modelling expertise in Python (Mesa) and/or NetLogo.
Experience with empirical ABM calibration.
A track record of ABM-related publications (simulation or computational-social-science publications also considered).
Job Requirements (Desirable):
Experience developing user-facing or handover-ready simulation interfaces (this project includes a simulation interface deliverable, developed by the Research Fellow with support from the project team).
Experience with Monte Carlo and sensitivity analysis.
Experience contributing to workshops or training materials for agency handover of research tools.
We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
