The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility, and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

pRED Cardiovascular & Metabolism, Immunology (CMI), located in Basel, Switzerland, focuses on the discovery and early development of innovative treatments for specific diseases that affect the lives of millions. In the cardiovascular and metabolism area, we are developing cutting-edge therapies to treat metabolic diseases.

We are currently looking for a diligent and highly motivated Research Associate with a strong industry background to join our Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (CVM) in-vivo pharmacology department. In this role, you will design and execute in-vivo experiments in rodents to evaluate the pharmacodynamics, efficacy and safety of novel therapeutic candidates for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The opportunity

  • Establish, validate and use disease relevant rodent models (e.g., obesity and diabetes) and readouts to support various drug discovery projects.

  • Collaboratively design and execute in-vivo studies, and interpret data from in-vivo experiments to assess the pharmacodynamics and therapeutic efficacy of novel compounds.

  • Support the development and characterization of novel in-vivo models for obesity-related comorbidities.

  • Diligently follow national and international animal welfare laws, and align with the company's commitment to the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine).

  • Continuously improve test systems, analyses, and data evaluation. Contribute to work process optimization including data capture, storage and assay automation.

  • Work closely with all members of the group, share duties, maintain a clean work environment and actively contribute to the positive work atmosphere within the group.

Who You Are

  • MSc/BSc in Life Sciences or completion of an apprenticeship for a research associate (“Lehrabschluss”)(no PhD) with at least 3 years of industry experience working with in-vivo models.

  • Mouse work experience required; managing animal cohorts, injections via various routes, behavioral assays, mouse monitoring, tissue sampling and processing.

  • LTK1 or equivalent is required.

  • Experience in rodent models of obesity and functional readouts, such as glucose and insulin tolerance tests, body composition analysis, whole-body metabolism (Promethion), blood pressure.

  • You communicate effectively in English, both in writing and orally. Skillfully able to interact with people and have strong commitment to teamwork.

  • Excellent data management and record-keeping skills are required.

At Roche, we aim high to deliver life-changing healthcare solutions. If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact on patients and healthcare systems worldwide, this is the place for you.
