Job description

Position: Senior Robotics Engineer - Perception (Full-time)
Location: Bengaluru, India
Working days: 5 days WFO

About the the Company

Rekise Marine is building autonomous ships and submarines that operate in the world's most hostile environments. We're executing India's flagship autonomous submarine project — the Jalkapi XLAUV — on order from the Indian Navy. This is an unmanned submarine weighing over 20 tons that can travel 5,000+ kilometers autonomously and operate in the ocean for 30+ days at a time. We're creating some of the largest autonomous robots in the world, machines with direct impact on the global economy and national security. While autonomous cars in India may still be a dream, autonomous ships and submarines are already a reality, and it is possible to build for the world from India.

The Role
We're seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer specializing in Perception to develop the sensory
intelligence for our autonomous submarines. You'll build AI/ML pipelines that enable submarines to
understand their underwater environment using sonar, cameras, and acoustic sensors in some of the
most challenging perceptual conditions on Earth. This role involves designing multi-sensor fusion
frameworks, implementing real-time object detection and tracking systems, and ensuring robust
perception under extreme conditions including turbidity, low-light, and noisy acoustic environments.
You'll transform raw sensor data into actionable intelligence that enables safe autonomous navigation
and mission execution.

Key Responsibilities
● AI/ML Perception Pipelines: Develop end-to-end AI/ML pipelines for sonar, LiDAR, radar, and
camera-based perception. Implement deep learning models for underwater scene
understanding, object classification, and anomaly detection in marine environments.

● Multi-Sensor Fusion: Design and implement multi-sensor fusion frameworks combining
acoustic, optical, and electromagnetic sensors for comprehensive environmental awareness.
Develop robust algorithms that handle sensor degradation and failure gracefully.
● Real-time Detection & Tracking: Implement real-time object detection, segmentation, and
tracking for underwater missions including obstacle avoidance, seabed mapping, and target
identification. Optimize algorithms for embedded deployment with strict latency requirements.
● Robust Underwater Perception: Enhance perception robustness under challenging conditions
including turbidity, low-light, pressure variations, and acoustic noise. Develop adaptive
algorithms that maintain performance across varying environmental conditions.
● Model Optimization & Deployment: Apply optimization techniques (quantization, pruning,
distillation) to deploy complex models on resource-constrained embedded systems. Ensure
real-time performance on submarine compute platforms.
● Data Pipeline & Training: Build complete ML pipelines including data collection, annotation,
training, and edge inference. Develop synthetic data generation and augmentation strategies for
underwater scenarios.

Required Qualifications
● B.Tech/M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related field
● 5+ years of experience in AI/ML for robotic perception systems
● Strong expertise in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow)
● Experience with computer vision and signal processing algorithms
● Proficiency in C++ and Python for production ML systems
● Knowledge of sensor fusion techniques and probabilistic frameworks
● Experience with GPU acceleration and optimization (CUDA/TensorRT)
● Understanding of ROS/ROS2 for robotics integration
● Full-stack ML experience: data collection, training, deployment, monitoring
● Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and optimization

Preferred Experience

● Publications in top-tier conferences (CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICRA, IROS)
● Experience with underwater perception and sonar/acoustic processing
● Hands-on deployment of perception systems on real autonomous vehicles
● Edge AI optimization and embedded system deployment
● Experience with active learning and few-shot learning techniques
● Background in 3D perception, SLAM, and mapping
● Knowledge of marine biology and underwater environmental factors

Why Join Rekise Marine

● Unique Perception Challenge: Build perception systems for the most challenging environment on Earth and underwater, where traditional sensors fail and new approaches are needed.
● AI at Scale: Deploy AI on 20-ton submarines operating autonomously for weeks. Your models will make critical decisions in real-world defense operations.
● Research Impact: Advance the state-of-the-art in underwater perception while solving practical problems. Publish groundbreaking research with real-world validation.
● Full Stack Ownership: Own the complete perception pipeline from sensor selection to deployed ML models. Build the eyes and ears of autonomous submarines.
● Domain Expertise: Develop expertise in underwater AI/ML, a field with massive potential but few practitioners globally.
● Competitive Package: Market-leading Compensation.
