Job Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and reinforce a culture that Demands Safety
  • Partner with operations managers, supervisors, and employees to improve safety performance and accountability.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to field and plant leadership regarding safety expectations and best practices.
  • Conduct compliance inspections and audits at ready-mix plants, aggregate operations, manufacturing facilities, jobsites and other Company locations.
  • Monitor and interpret OSHA, MSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, and other applicable regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of corporate safety strategies and objectives.
  • Support industrial hygiene assessments and implementation of corrective actions when necessary.
  • Lead or assist with accident, injury, near-miss, property damage, vehicle accident, and liability investigations.
  • Identify emerging risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support budgeting and planning initiatives related to safety improvements and capital projects.
  • Participate in and represent the company in industry organizations and safety committees.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies, insurance partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist managers with performance improvement and disciplinary processes related to safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Industrial Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; and
  • Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible safety experience in manufacturing, construction materials, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, transportation, mining, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, and related safety regulations.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and translate requirements into practical operational solutions.
  • Strong communication, presentation, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience working independently while effectively collaborating across multiple business units.
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and communicate performance metrics effectively
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred.
  • Powered industrial equipment Train-the-Trainer certifications preferred.
  • Other professional safety certifications (CHST, ASP, CSP, SMS, etc.) are desirable.

Physical Demands

  • Work will be performed in both office and field environments.
  • Frequent walking, climbing, standing, and driving required.
  • Ability to access active construction, manufacturing, aggregate, and ready-mix operations.
  • Occasional lifting, bending, and exposure to varying weather conditions.

Work Environment

The work environment includes office settings, manufacturing facilities, ready-mix operations, aggregate sites, warehouses, distribution facilities, and construction environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when required.  Exposure may include:

  • Moving mechanical equipment
  • Vehicle traffic
  • Elevated work areas
  • Dust, noise, vibration, and weather conditions
  • Electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Chemicals, fuels, and industrial materials

Travel throughout Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota to support company operations.

Participate in occasional evening and weekend activities, training, and meetings.
