Job Summary:

Performs medical and clinical duties to assist providers in the Family Practice Center. Will be responsible for rooming patients and managing their flow from the front office to an exam room through discharge. Assists in the care of patients ensuring quality care, physical exams, injury care, radiology imaging and other medical services.

Job Description:

Provide direct patient care and treatment

  • Prepares patients to be examined by the physician by measuring and recording BP, pulse, temperature, respirations, height, weight, general history and current medication list, recording same in order to facilitate a diagnosis and/or perform physician exams.
  • Perform routine lab tests (UAs, strep screens, etc) as ordered by physician.
  • Performs EKGs, injections, auditory and visual screenings, spirometry, administers medications and records results as ordered by the physician in diagnosing and treating the patient.
  • Document all clinical findings and patient response to interventions.  Provider test results to physicians when available.
  • Provide patient care and clinical support to physician during exam.  Assists physicians with procedures by preparing the patient and setting up the room and instruments needed for the procedure and returning room to the previous state.
  • Responsible for daily inventory of exam rooms and work areas, making sure stock is adequate to facilitate patient care.  Responsible for discarding and reporting any outdated or expired supplies to supervisor.  Cleans and disinfects exam rooms.  Reports equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Assists with completion of referrals, outpatient testing, pre-certification and scheduling.
  • Participated in PI studies.

Performs in-office x-rays as ordered by the physicians to facilitate diagnosis

  • Must maintain skills/competency of radiology task and able to demonstrate these for the site supervisor.
  • Responsible for operating digital equipment and monitor.  Must know how to operate bucky tray, control panel and wall unit. 
  • Practice ALARA and patient shielding as necessary.

Quality Management and Customer Service

  • Responsible for handling patient phone calls and inquiries for clinical staff
  • Follow-up or direct all unresolved patient concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Return all patient calls/voicemails within one business day.
  • Performs daily quality control checks and calibrations on equipment and performs proficiency testing when appropriate in order to maintain quality care and treatment.
  • Responsible for documenting all calibration records.

Successful completion of skills/competency and development

  • Maintain CPR certification.
  • Complete annual skills, competency checks and annual radiology testing
  • Successfully complete an orientation process that identifies skills to practice in position assignment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Registered by ARRT
  • Licensed to practice in the state where work is being performed.
  • Maintain full compliance with all continuing education requirements for license and registration.

Specialized Knowledge:   

  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Ability to organize time and tasks
  • Demonstrated competency in routine radiography

Kind and Length of Experience:

  • One year of experience performing x-rays in a physician’s office, hospital or occupational health center.
  • Relevant clinical experience in a related medical setting
