Job Title: Miscellaneous Parts Inspector                                                      

 

Description: Inspect end caps, backing rings and wear rings for conformity to the customer and the Association of American Railroads (AAR) specifications, using measuring instruments. Determine if there are any defects on the product such as cracks, water etching or nicks and, whether or not the product is repairable. Reject or re-grade products not meeting specifications, marking out product areas of defect with chalk or paint. Input information, into computer terminal, covering materials scrapped or salvaged. Assist in the assembly of cups and cones prior to the lateral operation; if required. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.

 

Overall Purpose: Inspect products for conformity to customer specifications, using measuring instruments.

 

Essential Functions: 

 

1.         Examines product for flatness, roundness, straightness, and defects such as cracks, water etchings.

 

2.         Marks defective areas with a non-permanent marking pen.

 

3.         Verifies dimensions of product, using micrometers, gauges, tapes and templates.

 

4.         Rejects or re-grades products not meeting specifications.

 

5.         Inputs information covering material scrapped or salvaged.

           

Physical Demands & Frequency: Requires medium to heavy lifting, standing sitting, reaching, handling, fingering, and near acuity.

 

A.         Position: Standing and sitting.

 

B.         Weights & Force: Up to 25 pounds.

 

C.         Use of Controls: Use of various gauges and hand grinder.

 

D.         Vision must be normal (20/20).  Correctional lenses are acceptable.
