Job Summary

The Recess Aide is responsible for supervising students during recess periods at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic School while ensuring a safe, positive, and faith-filled environment. This position promotes student safety, encourages appropriate social interactions, monitors playground activities, and supports the school's mission by fostering respectful behavior and good sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during assigned recess periods and ensure their safety at all times.
  • Monitor playground activities and enforce school rules and safety procedures.
  • Encourage positive student interactions, inclusion, and good sportsmanship.
  • Address minor conflicts and behavioral concerns using appropriate disciplinary practices.
  • Report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, or significant behavioral issues to school administration.
  • Assist students with problem-solving and conflict resolution when needed.
  • Ensure students remain within designated play areas.
  • Support smooth transitions between recess and classroom activities.
  • Communicate professionally with faculty, staff, and administration regarding student concerns.
  • Assist with supervision during inclement weather indoor recess periods as assigned.
  • Uphold the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church and St. Catherine Labouré Catholic School.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, recreation, or related setting preferred.
  • Ability to effectively supervise groups of students in an outdoor setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsive to student safety needs.
  • Demonstrated patience, dependability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and administration.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise students outdoors for extended periods.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, Safe Environment training, and Archdiocesan requirements.
