Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.</p><strong>Experience and Education</strong><br><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">Three years' experience in grounds maintenance, lawn care, farming, greenhouse, or nursery work.</span><br><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-indent: 0">(Education in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)</span><br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong><ul><li>Experience in agriculture production and row crop farming using equipment such as farm tractors, sprayers, planters, and harvesters. &nbsp;</li><li>Pesticide Applicator License or experience in preparation and application of pesticides.</li><li>Familiarity with noxious weeds and non-native invasive plants, and experience with the control techniques.</li></ul><p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><strong><span style="color: inherit">Age Requirement: </span></strong><strong><span style="color: inherit"> </span></strong><span style="color: inherit">Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.</span></p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)</strong><ul><li>Knowledge of the care and planting of grass, shrubs, and other types of landscaping vegetation.&nbsp;</li><li>Skill in operating machines, tools, and equipment used in the care and planting of grass, shrubs, and other plants.&nbsp;</li><li>Skill in operating tools and equipment used to construct and repair recreation and park buildings, equipment, and structures.</li><li>Skill in the operation of commercial weight vehicles.</li><li>Ability to lead and instruct others.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to select appropriate tools and equipment necessary to perform specific tasks.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to understand rules and regulations concerning park maintenance. &nbsp;</li><li>Ability to follow instructions.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.</li></ul><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)</strong><ul><li>Knowledge of rules and regulations concerning park maintenance.</li><li>Knowledge of County and departmental standards, policies, and procedures governing the performance of duties.</li><li>Skill in leading and instructing others in order to complete assigned tasks.&nbsp;</li><li>Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment necessary to perform specific tasks. &nbsp;</li><li>Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment.&nbsp;</li><li>Skill in following instructions.</li><li>Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.</li></ul><strong>Licenses and Certificates</strong><br>Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a Commercial, Class A Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.&nbsp;<br><br>Possession of a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required at the time of application. All licenses and certificates must be maintained throughout employment.<p style="margin: 0 0 8pt"><strong><span style="color: inherit">Age Requirement: </span></strong><span style="color: inherit">Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.</span></p>Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no notice.<br><br><strong>Physical and Environmental Conditions</strong><br>The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment.
