The Opportunity

Innovation is at the core of Hitachi Energy, and our research centers are the backbone of our technology development. For our research center in Västerås, Sweden, we are looking for an R&D Scientist with expertise in data‑driven monitoring, diagnostics, and IoT solutions for power systems.
In this role, you will work in highly skilled, collaborative teams with access to state‑of‑the‑art laboratory and experimental facilities, contributing to technologies that enable a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Identify technical requirements and drive innovation for future sustainable energy systems
  • Develop and deliver solutions to complex technical challenges within R&D projects
  • Validate new concepts through laboratory and field testing, including measurements, signal processing, and data analysis, and optimize solutions to meet technical and performance requirements
  • Manage R&D projects or work packages with a structured approach, clear targets, and effective technical leadership
  • Create ideas and proposals for R&D projects aligned with business needs and future commercial potential
  • Collaborate and communicate actively with team members, customers, suppliers, and partners in industry and academia
  • Deliver results in the form of software, hardware, technical reports, patent applications, scientific publications, and presentations
  • Build a strong internal network and actively share knowledge and expertise across the organization

Your Background

  • Preferably PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proven research experience related to digital substation equipment and architecture
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge in related areas such as IoT, communication and network architecture, and software development
  • Hands‑on programming experience, ideally across multiple programming languages
  • Knowledge and hands‑on experience in both classical and data‑driven signal processing and analysis techniques; experience in algorithm development is an advantage
  • Previous experience in leading R&D projects or work packages is an advantage
  • A curious mindset with the ability to adapt quickly to new technical challenges
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team‑player attitude
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
