Quality Engineer - Data Engineering

Sysco LABS Sri Lanka delivers the technology that powers Sysco’s end-to-end operations.  Sysco LABS’ enterprise technology is present in the end-to-end foodservice journey, enabling the sourcing of food products, merchandising, storage and warehouse operations, order placement and pricing algorithms, the delivery of food and supplies to Sysco’s global network and the in-restaurant dining experience of the end-customer.  

The Opportunity 

We are currently on the lookout for a Quality Engineer – Data Engineering to join our team. 

Responsibilities: 

• Validating datasets, reports, and dashboards by comparing results with source systems 

• Running SQL queries to check data accuracy, data transformations, and business rule alignment 

• Supporting testing of ETL/ELT processes and analytics pipelines across different stages 

• Reporting data issues, tracking defects, and retesting fixes in collaboration with Data Engineers and BI teams 

• Documenting simple test scenarios, expected results, and validation checklists for dashboards and datasets 

• Performing data integrity checks, transformation validations, and basic aggregation verifications 

• Following defined QE standards and maintaining testing information in Jira and Confluence 

• Working with senior QEs to improve testing coverage and learning advanced data validation techniques 

Requirements: 

• A Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field 

• 0–2 years of experience in QA, Data Quality, BI, or Software Testing (fresh graduates with good Python and SQL knowledge are welcome)  

• Basic SQL knowledge   

• An understanding of data tables, relationships, and simple BI concepts 

• Exposure to Python or interest in learning Python for test automation 

• Familiarity with Agile processes and tools like Jira/Confluence is an advantage 

• Good analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to learn 

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple teams 

• Must have a passion for quality and continuous improvement 

• Exposure to data engineering, ETL concepts, or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) 

• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) 

• A basic understanding of KPIs, metrics, or business rule validation
