Job Title: Provider Compensation and Financial Analyst
Work Schedule for this Position: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm or similar

Position Overview:
The Provider Compensation and Financial Analyst supports the hospital's financial planning and analysis functions and is responsible for the accurate administration of provider compensation arrangements. This position works closely with Finance, Human Resources, Payroll, Revenue Cycle, Medical Staff Services, legal counsel, operational leaders, and employed providers.
The position maintains provider compensation records, calculates compensation under approved agreements, reconciles payments, monitors provider productivity, and prepares clear reporting for providers and leadership. The Financial Analyst also supports budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, service-line analysis, and other financial projects.
This position does not independently establish provider compensation or make legal determinations. The role provides the analysis, documentation, and administrative support needed for leadership to make informed and compliant decisions.
A Day in the Life:
- Maintain a complete and accurate record of provider employment agreements, compensation terms, amendments, incentive arrangements, and other financial obligations.
- Calculate provider compensation in accordance with approved agreements, including:
- Base compensation
- Work relative value unit (wRVU) compensation
- Productivity incentives
- Quality incentives
- Call coverage payments
- Medical directorship payments
- Administrative stipends
- Recruitment incentives
- Income guarantees
- Other approved compensation arrangements
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual provider compensation calculations and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile provider compensation calculations to payroll records and identify any discrepancies before or after payment.
- Validate the accuracy and completeness of productivity data received from the electronic medical record, billing system, payroll system, or other source systems.
- Review unusual trends, late charges, corrected claims, posting-date issues, or other items that may affect provider productivity reporting.
- Prepare provider compensation statements that clearly explain productivity, incentive calculations, payments, adjustments, and outstanding balances.
- Respond to provider and leadership questions regarding compensation calculations in a timely and professional manner.
- Track contract terms, compensation thresholds, renewal dates, repayment obligations, incentive periods, and other key deadlines.
About You!
This Job is For You if You Have:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, healthcare administration, economics, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, provider compensation, healthcare finance, or a related field.
- Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, or variance analyses.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data validation, and financial modeling.
- Ability to interpret contractual compensation terms and translate them into accurate calculations.
- Ability to reconcile large and complex datasets from multiple systems.
- Ability to identify inconsistencies, investigate the cause, and recommend a reasonable resolution.
- Ability to analyze detailed information and explain results clearly to individuals without a financial background.
- Ability to manage recurring deadlines while responding to unplanned requests.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly, directly, and professionally.
- Ability to build productive working relationships with providers, department leaders, and administrative staff.
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when an issue requires leadership, legal, compliance, or Human Resources review.
- Ability to maintain neutrality when reviewing compensation questions or disputes.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
A Wow if You Have: Experience working in a hospital, medical group, physician practice, or other healthcare organization.
- Experience administering physician or advanced practice provider compensation arrangements.
- Knowledge of wRVUs, the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, productivity-based compensation, and common provider compensation models.
- Familiarity with provider employment agreements, professional service agreements, medical directorships, call coverage arrangements, and recruitment agreements.
- General knowledge of fair market value, commercial reasonableness, the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and other healthcare compensation requirements.
- Experience with Workday, Epic, business intelligence tools, or comparable financial and clinical systems.
- Master's degree or professional certification such as CPA, CMA, CHFP, or HFMA certification.
